Service Update – European Transport

November 2017

During the past 3-months rules have been enforced that forbid lorry drivers from taking their weekly break (minimum of 45hrs) in the cab of their lorry. Penalties are by means of heavy fines and/or imprisonment.
This is already having a big effect as many of hauliers are choosing to return home for the weekend, resulting in a lack of availability and an increase in rates. This is further compounded by fluctuations in exchange rates.

We continue to speak with various contractors but there is already a clear message that the situation is unlikely to improve in the foreseeable future.

The period between now and Christmas usually provides a spike in demand, so the issues are likely to be exacerbated and costs could increase substantially. So, if you are planning to move machines into the UK from Europe between now and Christmas then we suggest that you begin planning as soon as possible.

Should you have any queries, please speak with us and we will try to keep you updated.
