Specialist Transport & Installation of New Equipment in Sweden
Global leader in power distribution providing products to multinational technology company
The Challenge
We have worked with this client on several intricate UK based projects in the past, successfully delivering and installing valuable and delicate equipment into some challenging locations.
Flegg were asked to tender for this large-scale project which involved moving a significant amount of oversized and valuable switchgear skids to a high-profile technology companies’ new site in Northern Sweden.
The project required and experienced machinery movers with specialist transport and lifting equipment to collect from the UK and offload and install into the new facility in Sweden.
The Solution
After establishing specialist logistics and lifting partners, our project management team worked with the client to establish a detailed scope and programme of works.
In addition to the initial project, Flegg provided the client with additional support in sourcing an export packing solution. Flegg also designed and supplied a bespoke lifting frame, ensuring that the client’s freight could be secured and lifted safely and efficiently each time.
Between quoting and commencing the project there were major delays due to the global outbreak of COVID-19. This pushed the job beyond the Brexit deadline date in December 2020, adding a further layer of complication due to our team travelling and working outside the UK which required additional customs documents for the freight and lifting apparatus.
Our project management and planning team diligently ensured that our lifting team, logistics partner and client could travel safely with the necessary working permits and documentation to satisfy local legislation.
The Result
The project was completed in several phases over a 5-month period beginning in the summer of 2021. In total, 108 trailer loads were exported including 76 abnormal loads. Flegg’s own crew were present at the receiving site in Sweden throughout all installations. This included co-ordinating with a local crane company, overseeing more than 150 lifts with a mobile crane, lorry loader and forklift trucks. Once offloaded, our team skated the large skids into the building and assisted the client to level them ahead of commissioning works.
This was an extremely challenging project on many levels. Given the lengthy delays it was hugely important that the programme was executed faultlessly, and the freight arrived in the correct sequence.
On completion of the project our client commented “I would just like to extend my personal thanks to the huge amount of coordination and effort you have all put into this project to get to this milestone. This has truly been a team effort from all parties, and I am immensely proud of what we have all achieved”.
