Congratulations to the Marshall’s

Everyone from Flegg would like to say a big well done to our Commercial Director, Mark Marshall and his wife Claire after they recently completed the 54-mile London to Brighton cycle ride.
They did the ride in aid of Asthma UK, raising over £800 for a very worthy charity. Mark and Claire have asked to pass on their thanks for all the kind donations and are looking forward to doing more events in 2018.

Mark finally making it across the finish line in a time of 5hrs 47mins.

Sharing thoughts and helping charities

As many customers know, we commissioned a customer satisfaction survey as we wanted to find out what we are doing well (or not) so we can identify areas that we can improve on.

Thank you to those who took part – and to show our gratitude we were only too pleased to make donations to their chosen charities. Pledges have been given for research and support to charities dealing with medical and health-related conditions, such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, autism and epilepsy; cruelty to children; bereavement; animal care – and our ex-armed services men.

The whole experience has proved very positive and we are proud to be able to show our support.

Increasing hydraulic lift capacity to 125-tons!

In response to increased demand and changing market requirements we have replaced our existing 40-ton mega-lift travelling gantry with a new system supplied by Enerpac.

The new system will feature 4 x hydraulic lifting posts with a combined lifting capacity of 125-tons. As with the previous system it will be available with a range of lifting beams and track.

The system will be available from 11th September.

Contact us by calling 0845 4584958 or emailing to find how the new equipment can benefit your installation or removal project.

Knowing more about our projects

Our customers are as varied as the bespoke solutions we provide them with. They span several industry sectors, amongst others Packaging, R&D, Print, Engineering and Manufacturing.

We’ve outlined some of the work that we have undertaken in our new Case Studies section. Read about some projects we’ve supported customers with. We’ll be adding case studies over time so keep an eye out for them.

Trailer replacement program

Flegg Projects has a reputation for operating a well presented and efficient commercial vehicle fleet. It is our belief that as our customers invest in valuable machinery, they should expect their new equipment to arrive on modern and well equipped vehicles.

A number of our trailers are coming to the end of their lives, and after negotiations with various trailer suppliers, we are pleased to announce a replacement programme. We have secured four new step-frame semi-trailers. Three of these will be be fitted with curtainsider type bodies, the remaining one will be a flatbed. All four trailers will be supplied with hydraulic loading ramps which gives us the ability to load and carry our heavy forklift fleet.

King are the suppliers we have chosen, as their vehicles are built in the UK at their Leicestershire factory. The first of the new trailers (flatbed) is due to arrive at the beginning of July.

Adam Ambrose Joins Board of Directors

At Flegg Projects we are always to keen to promote staff from within the team and to encourage career progression. We are therefore delighted to announce that Adam Ambrose has joined the board of directors in the capacity of Operations Director.

Adam has been with the company, for too many years to mention, and has played a key role in the growth of the business since moving into a management role. Having originally joined Flegg Projects as a driver/installer he has extensive hands-on experience of the industry, including the successful fulfilment of a number of major installations and removal projects.

Adam’s new role will mean he takes over responsibility for all operations at our Aylesbury and Washington depots. Essentially he will ensure that our crews and drivers are provided with the right equipment and instructions to complete the works safely – and importantly meet our clients’ expectations.

Adam’s previous position of General Manager will be filled by a new member of staff. John Evans joins the Flegg team with many years’ practical and management experience in very similar roles, running crews of up to 30 people. John will be based at our Aylesbury depot and will head-up the projects team based there. He has excellent administration skills and will undertake site assessments, as well as producing detailed reports.

We wish Adam and John all the best in their new roles!!

Machinery Movement: Faster with Flegg and Hoist USA

Here at Flegg Projects we are always excited when some new kit arrives – I know, I know…

We have truly cemented our partnership with Hoist USA this year by again adding to our fleet. It is our philosophy to have our own machinery and therefore always strive to offer a top service to our customers. We buy them, maintain and service them – this way we know they are in top condition and always fully operational.

At Flegg Projects we believe you need more than merely a handling service. Considering how critical the moving of your machinery – or your customers’ machinery – can be to the bottom line of your business, we believe you need a top-flight professional project management facility to do it with the expertise you expect.

This has been demonstrated in the past 18-months with the purchase of three heavy lift-lift forklifts purchased from HOIST LIFT TRUCKS.

We asked our M.D, Jayson Flegg for his thoughts on the recent purchases

What convinced you to purchase from Hoist?

Nick invited me over to the factory in Chicago and I was impressed with the attention to detail. The biggest thing for me was how quickly they could build and deliver compared to other manufacturers.

Which models have you purchased?

We purchased a FR40/60 in the summer of 2015 and took delivery of another identical truck in December 2016. We also have the first and only FR15/25 in the UK which arrived with us in August 2016.

We helped Hoist to design and develop the 15/25 to help plug a specific gap in the UK Market. Flegg now operate the largest fleet of Hoist FR trucks in the UK.

So how does this benefit the customer?

The speed at which a complex job can be achieved now is phenomenal. These machines work well in confined and busy spaces enabling us to get the job done quickly and efficiently. The manoeuvrability and the Hoist advanced controls are exceptional. The ability to change from forks to booms in minutes reduces the time a job takes. Hoist customers in the US say “these are the Cadillacs of lift-trucks”. In the UK, we believe this means it’s the Porsche of machines – fast, efficient and reliable.

Top Tips – Planning a machine installation

1) PLANNING – Ensure the lifting/installation contractor has sufficient prior knowledge of the site before they arrive.

2) INSURANCE – Check the contractor has suitable policy cover to include ALL lifting/handling functions and appropriate level of liability in event of damage or loss.

3) DOCUMENTATION – Ask your contractor to provide a risk assessment and method statement to describe how the works will be completed.

4) EXPERIENCE – Be certain that the contractor has the suitable ability to undertake the required works; ask for training records and details of the crew’s practical knowledge and competencies.

5) EQUIPMENT – Know that any lifting or handling equipment is suitable for the task. Ask your contractor to provide testing and inspection records for lifting equipment and accessories.

Keeping the Flegg Wheels Turning

Flegg now operates a fleet of over 20 commercial vehicles and vans. As a business, we are legally obliged to ensure that all LGV’s and trailers are regularly inspected and a daily defect reporting system is in place and managed.

Our workshop Foreman/Manager Richard Wingrove (Winnie) is responsible for keeping the Flegg vehicles maintained and safe for the road. Winnie is very much part of the Flegg business having been with us since 1992. He brings a range of skills to the business and has fabricated many bespoke lifting/handling equipment for our clients as well as building bodies for the lorries.

Inevitably the growth of the business has involved a growth in the Fleet. Just 3 years ago, the fleet consisted of only 12 vehicles. So, James Blackman joined the team as Workshop trainee in August 2015 and is ear-marked to fill Winnie’s boots when his working days end.

Having the workshop on site gives our transport desk a lot of flexibility to ensure that our vehicle utilisation is maintained.
